| Our Policies - Environment |
|
As a principal player in the Scottish aquaculture industry, The Scottish Salmon Company is committed to promoting a responsible environmental policy, high standards of animal welfare and sustainable operations. This is integral to our business philosophy and was demonstrated by our attainment of the Crown Estate’s Stewardship Award for our work at Loch Roag. Throughout our farming operations, environmental sustainability is a primary concern and we are committed to giving equal priority to the welfare of our farm stock and that of local wildlife. We recognise that the success of our farming is dependent on the surrounding natural resources and we strive to utilise the environment responsibly, preventing pollution wherever possible. To improve our environmental performance, we also measure and monitor our operations on a regular basis. The Company is also committed to continuing to improve our stringent biological control and bio security measures, which have directly resulted in an improvement in the performance of our stock. The success of such measures is particularly evident by the lack of sea lice in areas exclusively controlled by the Company. At The Scottish Salmon Company, all our farming is undertaken in accordance with all relevant environmental legislation, prevailing Codes of Practice, Management Agreements and the regulations to which the Scottish salmon farming industry subscribes. The Company is also working towards improving our staff’s awareness and understanding of the environment. We have an ongoing training programme and have recently re introduced an Environment Management System (EMS) to ensure all staff are trained to realise the balance between expanding production and environmental targets. |
