Our Policies - Welfare

Fish welfare is of paramount importance to The Scottish Salmon Company, the welfare of our stock is dependent on good husbandry methods ensuring minimal stress and excellent health management practices to ensure the optimum conditions for growing salmon.

The welfare of our stock has a significant impact throughout the business, from site and stock selection - to grow fish in the best environment to suit their biological needs, through to fallowing, feed formulation and husbandry practices. We constantly strive to maintain and improve the welfare of our fish, good husbandry practices such as grading and feeding are continually monitored and improvements made to reduce stress while improving production.

Our aim is to prevent disease, and with careful bio-security on all our sites, planned fallowing and careful stock selection, our fish health record is second to none in the industry. Regular health monitoring on all sites ensures rapid response can be made if necessary for any stock that is compromised. Only permitted treatments are used, as prescribed by fish veterinarians.
