| Our Policies - Wildlife |
|
In June 2006, one of our constituent companies won the “Best Environmental Contribution” section of the Crown Estate Salmon Farming Awards. It is our policy to do nothing within our farming operations which will cause preventable damage to wildlife or the environment. Our practice is guided throughout by our awareness of the importance of responsible environmental stewardship, and of helping to conserve Scotland’s rich biodiversity. As a company, we are committed to taking a proactive approach in assessing and conserving the natural surroundings where we operate, and conducting our farming business with a view to minimising its impact. We also operate on the principle of restoring wildlife and the environment where practically possible. It is our policy to ensure that, if we vacate a site, it is left in such a condition as to revert to its original condition in as short a time as possible. We are also conscious of the fact that a philosophy of environmental stewardship requires us to pay attention to how we dispose of waste. The Scottish Salmon Company has a policy of minimising waste, disposing of waste by the most responsible methods available, and recycling where possible. It is on these principles that we manage our activities all over the West Coast of Scotland, and on the islands. The company’s environmental policy is overseen by the Senior Biologist, reporting directly to the MD, with a role that cuts across all departments in terms of ensuring that fish welfare, fish health, biosecurity and environmental responsibility are given top priority. |
