COMPANION-FARMING-main-shot

Companion Farming

In another innovative move, we are piloting Companion Farming, or Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) which introduces farming of different aquaculture crops, such as seaweed and mussels alongside the salmon pens, forming a self-contained eco system

The aim is to create a greater natural balance in the management of the water systems. Following early signs of success at our award-winning Loch Roag site, we have now introduced seaweed crops alongside our salmon farming operation at Ardcastle, Loch Fyne.

Companion Farming exchanges nutrients in the water system giving potential benefits for the produce farmed in the marine environment. The project has been developed with the Scottish Association of Marine Science as part of our ongoing commitment to the local environment.
