We are very proud to support a number of local events within
the communities in which we live and work. Here is a round-up
of some events we have recently supported:
We hosted our second annual Salmon Run in September. The team based event saw staff run, walk, cycle and row their way from the Outer Hebrides to Arran, with an additional stage in Edinburgh. This year’s event was bigger than ever with £5,000 raised so far for The Sandpiper Trust. All moneys received will go towards the provision of defibrillators and improving emergency care in remote areas of Scotland, where SSC families live and work.
Working in partnership with BasketballScotland
The Scottish Salmon Company is working in partnership with basketballscotland for 2014/2015. The sponsorship will cover the development of the Scotland U12 Girls Squad and of basketball in the Western Isles. The funding will go towards more coaching, clubs and support for young players as well as a basketball league and festival for primary schools. We are working with basketballscotland to promote positive lifestyles to young people through sport, healthy eating and general wellbeing in the areas where we operate.
Brodick Highland Games
The Scottish Salmon Company joined in the celebrations at this year’s Brodick Highland Games. The action packed day saw children’s races, heavy athletics, pipe bands and Highland dancing. The event ended with a barbeque at The Douglas Hotel where The Scottish Salmon Company donated salmon for all to enjoy.
Portavadie Festive Market
At last year’s Portavadie Festive Market, we were delighted to donate some Scottish salmon, which formed the centre piece of a ‘Guess the weight’ challenge helping to raise money for the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.
Salmon was included in a seafood cookery workshop and enjoyed as part of a celebration of local seafood.
Dervaig Seafood Extravaganza
The 12th Annual Dervaig Seafood Extravaganza is a fundraising dinner that celebrates locally produced seafood with a wide variety of species including salmon, crab, lobster and oysters. All proceeds from ticket sales and donations were split between the Dervaig Hall and the Tobermory RNLI.
Lochcarron Highland Games
The BBQ at the Lochcarron Highland Games is a highlight. Salmon donated helped raise funds that go towards supporting the games.
Tarbert Seafood Festival
At the Tarbert Seafood Festival, which has been running for a number of years, we were pleased to donate some salmon for the annual Seafood Festival’s cooking demonstration, with many innovative recipes selected.
Uig Gala Day
For the annual Uig Gala Day, we donated salmon for the community BBQ. We were also involved in events around Reef beach, supporting Seatrek’s boat rides by providing a standby vessel as well as staff to assist on the temporary pontoon.
Uig Gala Day includes a wide range of activities for all ages including competitions, a sheep race and a delicious variety of food stalls. It is an event which we enjoy supporting.
