The Scottish Salmon Company celebrates fourth year of Cowal Highland Gathering support
This coming weekend (24 – 26 August), The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) celebrates its fourth year as headline sponsor of the Cowal Highland Gathering, one of the biggest events in the Highland Games calendar.
Dunoon will play host to the Games again this year, with visitors and competitors treated to finest displays of Scottish traditions, from the Heavy Events and pipe band displays, to Highland dancing, children’s activities and food stalls. The Cowal Highland Gathering is renowned for blending the traditional elements of a highland games with other attractions and entertainment, forming one of Scotland’s biggest and best family days out.
Over the course of the weekend, 720 dancers from across the globe will compete in the Scottish and World Highland Dancing Championships, which see entrants from countries including Canada, the USA, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, England, and, of course, Scotland. SSC is once again sponsoring the ever-popular Heavies events, where competitors will test their strength and skill in the hope of being crowned winner at Scotland’s biggest Highland Games.
The Scottish Salmon Company Family Food Kitchen will be at the Gathering on Saturday 26 August, situated at the top of the playing field, and Games-goers will be able to enjoy SSC’s finest Scottish Salmon throughout the day with tastings, demos, food tips and competitions – the Cowal Skink is sure to be a big hit! Try your hand (or foot!) at completing the Wobble Board Challenge in the fastest time and attempt to guess the weight of the salmon for your chance to win some Scottish salmon.
In the lead up to the big event, The Scottish Salmon Company jointly hosted a reception with the Cowal Highland Gathering committee. The event, at Dunoon Burgh Hall, brought together Cowal Highland Gathering committee members, SSC staff, local councillors, business owners and members of the community for the evening in anticipation of this weekend’s festivities.
SSC operates at 20 sites across Argyll & Bute, and employs some 180 staff in the area, and as a proud supporter of the Gathering, took the opportunity to meet the local stakeholders and committee in the lead up to one of the area’s biggest and best events.
