The Scottish Salmon Company shortlisted at the 2017 Highlands & Islands Food and Drink Awards
SSC is shortlisted for its achievements in Export and Innovation and also in the New Product Award category for its Native Hebridean Salmon. The winners will be announced on 20 October at a ceremony in Inverness hosted by renowned food critic and broadcaster Jay Rayner.
The Scottish Salmon Company is one of only 34 businesses to have made the awards shortlist that spans 13 diverse categories.
Delivered with support from Highlands & Islands Enterprise, the awards celebrate quality, innovation and growth in one of Scotland’s most prosperous industries. Now in their 13th year, they showcase the diversity and excellence of the region’s food and drink industry, contributing to the reputation of Highlands & Islands as a world food destination.
The Scottish Salmon Company was a fitting finalist in the New Product category with its Native Hebridean Salmon, developed through an innovative broodstock programme that ensures full traceability. The native strain is descended from wild salmon from the fresh river waters of North Uist and are born, bred and raised exclusively in the Hebrides. Native Hebridean Salmon was introduced to the international market last year and has already garnered praise from the Federation of Chefs Scotland, who said it is not only fantastic, but similar to wild salmon.
