Inga Benga

Inga is one of our chefs at the Harris and Lewis Smokehouse. Originally from Latvia, she has a passion for pastry and her dessert menu will leave you drooling!

Where are you from?  

I am from Latvia but I consider myself Russian-Latvian.

Why did you become a chef?

As a little girl, I was fascinated by my mum and gran cooking and would always help out. When I was 25 I had the chance to start a chef course at a local college. I finished as the best student in the class, earning me my fist job as a chef. 

What are your favourite ingredients to work with?

I love working with chocolate and pastry, desserts are my passion!

How did you end up in Stornoway?

I came to Stornoway to visit my friend and haven't left since. I guess it was love at first sight and I can't imagine living anywhere else!

What do you like about Stornoway?

The nature of the Outer Hebrides is so unique and beautiful, it makes you fall in love with the place. Living on the island is very special and every day is an adventure.

Why did you want to join Harris & Lewis Smokehouse Restaurant?

I knew it would be an interesting new venture!

What is your favourite thing on the menu?

I love all things desserts; avocado ice cream, red wine poached pear and anything with chocolate.

An interesting fact about me:

I am a visual artist and make my own jewellery. In my spare time, I also enjoy surfing and snorkeling.
