The nutrition and health benefits of
Native Hebridean Salmon

A report by esteemed dietitian Dr Carrie Ruxton has found that The Scottish Salmon Company’s(SSC) Native Hebridean Salmon provides numerous health benefits and can play an important part in a balanced diet.

The new nutritional analysis shows that a 100g portion of Native Hebridean Salmon contains 11.6 μg vitamin D, which is more than the daily recommended 10 μg adult dose. Vitimin D is essential for normal bone and muscle health, and supporting immune function, however around a fifth of people in the UK are low in vitamin D and intakes are also low in other countries across the world.

The key findings of the report include:

  • Native Hebridean Salmon contains nearly two and a half times more vitamin D than regular farmed salmon

  • Its Vitamin D levels are more than ten times higher than in other protein-rich meal options, such as white fish, meat, poultry

  • It contains more of the beneficial long-chain omega-3 fatty acids than white fish, poultry or meat

  • The omega-3 fats (DHA + EPA) found in Native Hebridean Salmon are proven to support normal heart health and vision

  • Native Hebridean Salmon is a good source of potassium (blood pressure regulation), containing more than other high protein meal options

  • Selenium and vitamin D – both found in Native Hebridean Salmon – support normal immune function
