SSC harnesses goodwill for Arran riding charity

The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has made a donation of £693.95 to local charity RDA Arran Group, the island’s riding group for disabled children and adults.

The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has made a donation of £693.95 to local charity RDA Arran Group, the island’s riding group for disabled children and adults.

The funds were raised at the Brodick Highland Games where SSC sold its finest sea loch fresh Scottish salmon in a Wooleys bun to visitors. RDA Arran Group was proposed by SSC’s Lamlash site team to receive the donation, which will help fund field maintenance and some new lesson equipment.

Jamie Sillars, SSC Assistant Site Manager at Lamlash, attended one of Arran RDA’s morning sessions to meet with the Group’s volunteers and riders, and to present the donation from SSC.

Arran RDA aims to provide a quality learning and recreational experience for children and adult riders on the island with physical or learning disabilities, ensuring they can participate in a relaxed atmosphere of fun and companionship. The group’s efforts offer an invaluable service to those with disabilities on Arran – a safe and encouraging environment where volunteers and riders can engage and grow, while experiencing the benefits of exercise and the great Scottish outdoors. All riders benefit from regular one-hour sessions with the support of volunteers to improve balance, concentration, coordination, communication and confidence.

SSC lent its support to the Brodick Highland Games on the Isle of Arran on Saturday 5 August, hosting its family fun food stand for foodie demos and tips, tastings, and competitions, while raising money to support one of the island’s charitable causes.

Craig Anderson, Chief Executive at The Scottish Salmon Company, said: “We are proud to be involved in such a well-loved community event as the Brodick Highland Games, and it is great that we are able to support a worthy local cause which does so much for the people of Arran.

“We are passionate about the promotion of health and wellbeing in the communities where we live and work, and it is clear that the RDA Arran Group is also working toward this common goal. We are pleased that our donation will help the Group to continue its great work in the Arran community.”

Sue Tozer, Chairman of RDA Arran Group, said: “We would like to thank The Scottish Salmon Company for their generous donation to our Group. It is support like this from the local community that enables us to continue to provide our riders with a fun and safe environment to aid their personal development.

“Our volunteers work immensely hard to care for and learn with our riders, and seeing the difference we can make in their lives is very special.”
