The Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO) has launched its new Sustainability Charter, ‘A Better Future For Us All’. This aims to create a vision for the future of Scotland’s farmed salmon sector and is a collective strategy developed by those working in the industry, including The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC).
The sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry is fundamental and the charter will encourage innovation and problem solving, as well as committing to ending fish escapes, obtaining all feed from sustainable sources and working towards complete renewable energy use.
“Our sector ambition is to become world-leading in the provision of healthy, tasty, nutritious food, produced in the most responsible and sustainable way. We have an opportunity to be a key contributor to Scotland’s target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 – and aid the country’s post-Covid recovery and renewal.”
There are five key pledges and 41 actions in the charter, watch the video below and read the full report here.
