Native Hebridean Farmed Salmon has been shortlisted for a prestigious award at the 2018 Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards.
The Scottish Salmon Company’s flagship product is a finalist in the category of Aquaculture Seafood Product of the Year. The Company’s community fund has also been nominated for the Community Initiative Award.
Run for the first time by Aquaculture UK, the awards are a unique opportunity to recognise individuals, companies or organisations that have made the most significant contribution to the UK’s aquaculture industry since 2015, when the awards were last staged.
Craig Anderson, Chief Executive of The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC), said:
“To be shortlisted as Aquaculture Seafood Product of the Year is testament to the quality, prestige and provenance of Native Hebridean Farmed Salmon.
“Native Hebridean Salmon are a truly unique and native strain of Scottish salmon. Descended from stock sourced in the freshwater loch systems of North Uist and reared exclusively in the Hebrides.
“Our Native Hebridean broodstock programme has been in development for a number of years and takes our commitment to Scottish Provenance one step further by not just guaranteeing Scottish provenance, but Hebridean origin and island heritage.
“I believe that this uniqueness makes it a worthy finalist and to reach this stage is recognition of the significant investment made by SSC and the hard work of colleagues from across the Company.
“We are committed to the remote and rural communities in which we live and work and our focus is now on developing year-round production of Native Hebridean Farmed Salmon.”
Susan Tinch, Event Manager at Aquaculture UK said:
“The shortlist reflects the spirit of enterprise and the commitment to excellence that characterises the UK aquaculture sector. “
“The quality of the entries across all the categories this year was exceptional and the judges took over a day to deliberate, before selecting the final nominees.”
Winners will be announced at the awards presentation dinner, hosted by Deacon Blue drummer and BBC Scotland sports presenter Dougie Vipond, on Wednesday 23 May 2018, during the Aquaculture UK 2018 exhibition in Aviemore.
The award for Best Aquaculture Company will be announced on the night and the industry can vote online for the People’s Choice awards from the list of nominees at aquacultureawards.com/vote. The winner of this award will also be announced at the ceremony.
