On Saturday 5 August, The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) will again show its support for the Brodick Highland Games on the Isle of Arran, an event which has attracted competitors, spectators and visitors since 1886.
In the height of Highland Games season, SSC will once again be hosting a family fun food stand in Brodick, with a day-long programme which includes tastings, foodie demos and tips, competitions and selling its finest sea loch fresh Scottish salmon in a Wooleys of Arran bun to raise money for a local charity.
This year, the SSC team will be creating some truly Scottish cuisine by pairing its Scottish salmon with local Arran ingredients for the food demonstrations and tastings. The SSC team will also be on hand to share their knowledge about the Scottish salmon during the morning education session; Games-goers can learn about the Scottish salmon’s life cycle, how the salmon adapt to their environment and learn about the salmon’s diet and life off the Isle of Arran.
Those who are feeling lucky can try their hand (or foot!) at completing the Wobble Board Challenge in the fastest time to win a side of the finest Cold Smoked Scottish Salmon. Games attendees will also have the chance to put their ‘guesstimating’ skills to the test in the guess the weight of the salmon competition. The winner will be presented with a side of Hot Smoked Scottish Salmon, but will also nominate a community organisation to receive a Fish for Health day of salmon cooking and tasting for health and wellbeing.
The day is set to be filled with the finest displays of Scottish traditions, from the Heavy Events and pipe band displays, to Highland dancing, children’s activities, stalls and side shows a-plenty.
Craig Anderson, Chief Executive at The Scottish Salmon Company, said: “We are proud to be involved in such a well-enjoyed community event in Brodick and are looking forward to the day. There is something on offer for all the family at the Highland Games, including opportunities to try our Scottish salmon.”
