The Scottish Salmon Company welcomes Argyll & Bute MP to local processing facility

The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) was pleased to welcome local MP Brendan O’Hara to its newly developed Cairndow processing and filleting facility, situated near the mouth of Loch Fyne, on Friday 19th January.

Mr O’Hara, the SNP MP for Argyll & Bute, joined Craig Anderson, Chief Executive of The Scottish Salmon Company, to tour the salmon processing facility and meet the team responsible for helping bring the fish from farm to plate.

The Scottish Salmon Company produces over 25,000 tonnes of the finest sea loch fresh Scottish salmon annually which is exported to 26 countries worldwide. With about half of SSC salmon being produced in Argyll & Bute alone, Cairndow’s processing capabilities have been developed to include filleting facilities.

The Cairndow site currently has around 80 employees with SSC employing 160 full-time staff across 20 sites in Argyll & Bute overall. A significant local employer, SSC is committed to developing a platform for sustainable business growth and in addition to the developments at Cairndow, the Company has invested in a harvest station and well boat in the region.

The Scottish Salmon Company will also bring its finest Scottish salmon to a ‘Taste of Argyll & Bute’ event at the House of Commons on 30th January, sponsored by Mr O’Hara. The Company will be joined by other local food and drink producers at this event which will showcase the region’s best offerings to MPs and other representatives from across the UK.
