Full Time, Part Time, Weekends

Location: Our Applecross hatchery

Salary: £19,772 – £29,072 per annum dependent on experience (pro rata for Part Time), plus on call premiums and overtime at an enhanced rate.

Due to significant investment into the company, we are looking to recruit Freshwater Operatives to work as directed by the Freshwater Site Manager in the day-to-day operation of our flagship Freshwater Recirculation Site, where we look after Salmon from egg to smolt. It is also a great opportunity to be part of the first team in Scotland leading the way into post-smolt production with the development of a new facility.

Duties:

  • Technical Standards – operate to the highest standards of husbandry, biosecurity, food safety and quality standards and support the Site Manager & Senior Freshwater Operatives to ensure that these are embedded through the site. Highlighting and reacting to issues when appropriate in areas such as: Production, Environment, Quality, Health and Safety, Fish Welfare, Biosecurity and Hygiene.
  • Site Operations – meet the highest quality standards, following all Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Measurement & Control – understand the site targets and support the team to ensure that these goals are used to improve site performance.
  • Health & Safety – follow safe working practices and, as a team member, ensure a safe working environment exists for all employees on the site, meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the Group Health & Safety policy.
  • Skills Training – attend all courses as required and only operate machinery when authorised and trained to do so. On the job and specific job-related training will be provided as required. 

Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience is not required as training will be provided.
  • A background or interest in aquaculture or biology would be beneficial.
  • Technical expertise in aquaculture and fish husbandry, preferably previous hatchery work, is desirable.
  • Experience of working in a recirculation facility is desirable.
  • Good practical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player – experience of working co-operatively within a small team and communicating effectively.
  • Able to demonstrate good numeric and IT skills.
  • Ability to be flexible with working hours preferrable as weekend and on-call rotas are in place.
